Christina is a Los Angeles native growing up in Venice, her parents grew up in Inglewood and East Los Angeles. She grew up in a house with an artist and a community activist/intervention specialist. She is the first in her family to be involved with a math and science field. Part of her love for engineering is that it is an everyday skill and can be used to help others. She volunteers with a variety of groups to bring science and engineering to young students in disadvantaged Los Angeles communities and serves as a union representative at work. In her spare time she also enjoys traveling the world, fine art, and dancing.
Christina Becerra Jones Orosco is a graduate of the University of Southern California (USC) with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineer Building Science and a Master's degree in Construction Management. While attending USC she was a Viterbi Freshman Academy Coach, Historian of Society for Women Engineers (SWE), and President of the Viterbi Graduate Student Association (VGSA). She is also a proud product of the Mexican American Alumni Association (now called Latino Alumni Association) who supported her financially and with professional development.
Just before her undergraduate graduation she started working for the City of Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment (LASAN), a masters degree and 8 years later she is still part of the LASAN familia. Currently she is working to reshape the City of Los Angeles' access to recycled water as Project Manager for the Hyperion Advanced Water Purification Facility, one of the first steps on the road to transition the water reclamation plant to produce 100% recycled water by 2035. In addition to that work she gets to travel around the country to work with other sanitation agencies, regulators, and elected officials to get sensible environmental legislation passed to ensure the protection of public health and the environment. She is licensed by the State of California not only as a Professional Civil Engineer but also as a Safety Assessment Program Evaluator.
Christina is a lifetime member of SHPE and has been active in SHPE LA as the Election Committee Chair 2018-2020.
